Music and Medicine: A musical prescription

Dr. Fraser Rubens – tenor / ténor; Dr. Carol Wiebe – piano; Adam Nelson – violin / violon

Drs. Carol Wiebe (piano) and Fraser Rubens (tenor) will lead you on a musical journey of the interface of music and medicine. They will voyage amongst the myriad stories of how music can affect our health and how it has impacted composers and history.

Music: Softly as in a morning sunrise (Hammerstein and Romberg); Morgen (Strauss); Libiamo (Verdi); Storiella d'amore (Puccini); Oh, never sing to me again (Rachmaninoff); Waly, Waly (traditional); Salut! Demeure chaste et pure (Gounod); Lullaby (Godard); Lullaby (Joel); Londonderry air (traditional).

Dr. Fraser Rubens, a Cardiac Surgeon at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute is also a superb tenor. For this lecture-concert he explores the many links between music and medicine. He is joined by the excellent pianist Dr. Carol Wiebe, Vice President of Medical Affairs at Bruyère Continuing Care, who studied music before pursuing a career in medicine. Drs. Rubens and Wiebe are the two founding doctors of Concert Docs (concertdocs.ca) an organization of musician doctors who offer pro bono concerts for good causes in the Ottawa area.
