MPRS: Rhythm and Colour of the Balkans
This Wednesday's DOMS noon-hour concert, titled Rhythm and Colour of the Balkans, features rarely-heard music by Serbian and Serbian-Canadian composers Slavenski, Mokranjac, Pashu, Maksimovic and Sokolovic interpreted by emerging Montreal-based Canadian-Serbian pianist Viktor Lazarov.
For his DOMS and Ottawa debuts this Wednesday at noon hour, Mr. Lazarov explores his rich and colourful musical heritage with an exciting and unique program drawing on elements of folk dance, Greek mythology, minimalism and contemporary trends in composition.
Mr. Lazarov has performed internationally in the New York City International Keyboard Institute and Festival, the University of Florida International Piano Festival and the Burgos Music Festival in Spain. His recordings have been broadcast in the USA and Serbia. He completed his B.Mus. with Prof Marina Lomazov at the University of South Carolina, and a M.Mus. and Graduate Diploma in Performance with Prof Ilya Poletaev at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Musicology at the University of Montreal.
A heartfelt thank you to the Ottawa Community Foundation, which has provided special funding for the development of DOMS.
